1. Policy Statement
Taqwa Institute is committed to safeguarding children during collection at the end of sessions. This policy sets out arrangements where a parent/carer requests an older sibling to collect a younger sibling. All decisions prioritise the child's safety and welfare in line with KCSiE 2024.
2. Eligibility
- Collecting sibling must be at least 12 years old
- Must demonstrate appropriate maturity, judgement and reliability
- Written parental consent is required — verbal consent is not accepted
- Consent must be reviewed annually or when circumstances change
- Taqwa reserves the right to refuse or withdraw permission on safeguarding grounds
3. Handover Procedure
- Handover takes place within the school grounds, supervised by a member of staff
- Children are not released to roads, pavements or vehicles
- Responsibility transfers from Taqwa only when the younger child has been handed to the authorised sibling and both are seen to leave together safely
4. Roadside Collection
Parents collecting by car must park safely and legally. Arrangements will not be approved where pupils would need to:
- Cross busy roads unsupervised
- Move through traffic
- Respond to signals from a vehicle in the road
5. Failed Collection
If the authorised sibling does not arrive:
- The younger child remains supervised at Taqwa
- Parents/carers are contacted immediately
- The situation is recorded
- The DSL is informed if safeguarding concerns arise
6. Policy Review
Reviewed annually in line with KCSiE guidance.
