1. Purpose

Photographs and video images of children are personal data under UK GDPR. Taqwa Institute takes a careful approach to photographing and filming children, balancing the benefits of positive publicity with the need to protect children's privacy and safety.

2. Consent

Written parental consent must be obtained before any photograph or video of a child is:

  • Published on the Taqwa website or social media
  • Used in newsletters, promotional materials, or press releases
  • Shared with third parties

Consent is sought at the time of enrolment and reviewed annually. Parents/carers may withdraw consent at any time by contacting office@taqwainstitute.org.

3. Rules for Taking Images

  • Never name a child in a photograph without separate written consent
  • Do not photograph children in changing rooms, toilets or similar private spaces
  • Only photograph children in appropriate dress
  • Do not use photographs of children subject to court orders
  • Group/class shots are preferred over individual identifiable images
  • Images are stored securely on password-protected systems only
  • Images must not be transferred to personal devices
  • Images of former pupils are deleted or not used after they leave

4. Parents at Events

Parents wishing to photograph or film at Taqwa events must inform the Principal in advance. Images are for personal/family use only and must not be posted publicly on social media without the consent of parents of other children in the image.

5. Storage & Retention

Images are stored securely and only accessed by authorised staff. Images are deleted once the purpose for which consent was given has been fulfilled or consent is withdrawn.

6. Policy Review

Reviewed annually, consistent with UK GDPR and ICO guidance on images of children.
