This policy sets out Taqwa Institute's fire safety arrangements to protect pupils (aged 4–16), staff, volunteers and visitors, and to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

1. Purpose

This policy sets out Taqwa Institute's fire safety arrangements to protect pupils (aged 4–16), staff, volunteers and visitors, and to comply with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.


2. Responsibilities

3. Fire Detection & Warning

  • Automatic fire detection system installed throughout the premises
  • Manual call points on each floor
  • System tested weekly and serviced annually
  • Fire action notices displayed at all entrances, corridors and classrooms

4. Evacuation Procedure

  1. On alarm activation, all staff direct pupils to evacuate immediately
  2. Fire Marshals sweep their assigned zones
  3. Everyone proceeds to the Assembly Point (to be confirmed for Crossbank Street)
  4. Teachers take registers using the school management system
  5. No one re-enters the building until emergency services give permission
  6. Call emergency services: 999

Fire drills are conducted at least once per term (minimum twice per academic year). Outcomes are recorded and used to improve procedures.


5. Younger Children (Ages 4–7)

Additional support is provided for younger children during evacuation. Named staff members are designated to assist Early Years pupils. Parents/carers of younger children are briefed on evacuation arrangements at enrolment.


6. Training

All staff receive fire safety induction and annual refresher training covering:

  • Evacuation routes and assembly points
  • Use of call points
  • Role as fire marshals or class supervisors
  • How to support younger children during evacuation

7. Record Keeping

Taqwa Institute maintains logs for:

  • Fire alarm testing
  • Emergency lighting inspections
  • Extinguisher servicing
  • Electrical safety inspections
  • Fire drills and evaluations
  • Staff training

8. Policy Review

Reviewed annually or sooner if the building layout changes, new equipment is installed, or a significant incident occurs.
